Becky Engel

PR Director, Account Director

We should really change Becky's title from PR Director to something with a bit more pop to it.

Becky doesn't just "direct"; she jumps in and drives. What gets her up in the morning is how she can fuel PR's effectiveness for a brand: creatively cultivating media relationships, along with every other relationship a brand might have in the real world today—in advertising, social and interactive channels. Let's call what she does Brand Relations.

She has huge expertise on international and tech accounts. Her experience helps develop a rich communications mix for GB clients, where PR works seamlessly with marketing, advertising, brand and online strategies to amplify a brand's effect in the market.

Becky is a strong project manager and an absolute geek for strategic planning. We have no doubt that somehow, someway, some of this contributed to her becoming the 2007 World Rock, Paper Scissors Champion of WOMMA.

Throw down.

My favorite song is “Take me out to the ballgame” because it captures everything I love about baseball: the history and tradition, the collected love of being at the park, and it not just being about winning the game, but experience of the small moments in the game.

I don’t like being called a PR person, because it narrows how people expect me to play in my profession.  Plus, consumers don’t experience a brand in silo'd channels anyway.  I’d rather be called the director of relevancy or a brand advocate because I dig learning what makes a company tick and squaring that with why the public should care.

And speaking of brands, I’m a student of the brand of country of New Zealand. Their sports teams, their food and wine, their advertising/PR industry, hell, their airline — everything brings forward the same personality and attitude, so regardless of where you experience them, you get the strongest, most cohesive sense of identity of the country. It’s that unified voice that leaves no question who they are or what they stand for. Which is why I want to live there. And why I settle for visiting every few years. Check out the NZ love.
