Hooray for B Corp certification!

As our clients know, we Griffs have never shied away from a challenge. It’s in our DNA to do things differently, to do things better.

That’s why we are excited to announce that we have recently earned our B Corp certification.

We had a suspicion that we were living the B Corp values, so we put ourselves to the test and emphatically tossed our hat in the ring to join the ranks of the few. Companies like New Seasons Market, A to Z Wine Works and Neil Kelly, Patagonia and Warby Parker who recognize that business can be both profitable and good.

But what does that even mean? Technically, it means this. It also means that we are living the dream. It means that we are taking all the decisions we make and the work we do and harnessing it to drive socially responsible change in our community and our environment.

We earned our certification through B Lab, a nonprofit that serves a global movement of entrepreneurs using the power of business to solve social and environmental problems. It was an intense, almost year-long process that examined everything from our current business practices and future sustainability goals to our legal qualifications.

Only 1,300 companies worldwide have met this challenge and only 53 in Oregon. The rigorous standards and ongoing verifications take work. The kind of work we are excited to do.

In a nutshell: B Corps focus on doing good work that uses the power of private enterprise to create public benefit. As B Lab described it: B Corp certification is to sustainable business what LEED certification is to green building or Fair Trade certification is to coffee.

As we celebrate our 40th anniversary this year, we Griffs look forward to celebrating 40 more years as part of the B Corp community and look forward to seeing the change it will bring and the good we can do.
