Grady Britton Awards $25,000 Grant to Oregon Partnership to Help Publicize its Military HelpLine
Award Marks Third Annual Grant of Marketing Services to Local Non-Profit Agencies
Portland, Ore. (August 2, 2010) – Grady Britton (GB) is proud to award its third annual $25,000 Grant for professional services to Oregon Partnership, a statewide non-profit based in Portland working in the field of substance abuse prevention and suicide prevention. Grady Britton will work with Oregon Partnership on a program to promote its new Military HelpLine––1-888-HLP-4-VETS ––that provides confidential advice and referrals for returning military, veterans, and their families.
According to Oregon Partnership, mental health issues and suicide among veterans are escalating problems. Data indicates that there are 18 suicides a day nationwide among this population. Such statistics prompted the introduction of a bill in Congress earlier this year. The bill required the Veterans Administration to conduct a study to understand the factors contributing to veteran suicides, and to identify steps to prevent future tragedies. At the request of the Oregon National Guard, the Oregon Partnership was asked to begin operating a private and confidential help line for returning military personnel and their families, offering referrals to counseling and other resources. Grady Britton will provide creative services to help the Oregon Partnership publicize the Military HelpLine in all corners of Oregon, especially in rural areas where veterans may feel cut off from information and support groups which exist primarily in the Valley core.
“Those who have served in the military and their families often face a myriad of problems that sometimes seem overwhelming. That’s why we see an urgent need to get the word out about the new Military HelpLine,” said Peter Jurney, Development Director of Oregon Partnership. “Grady Britton’s grant couldn’t have come at a better time. The award will enable us to reach our service men and women and their families to let them know help and support are just a phone call away.”
Oregon Partnership teaches prevention of substance abuse and suicide at the elementary and secondary level; manages statewide campaigns against underage drinking and prescription drug abuse; works with community drug-free coalitions around the state; and operates four 24/7 crisis lines: Oregon’s suicide LifeLine; Drug and Alcohol HelpLine; YouthLine, staffed by teens; and the new Military HelpLine. Oregon Partnership takes more than 36,000 crisis line phone calls each year, half of which are suicide calls. It saves lives every day through referrals to counseling and resources, and when necessary, by doing suicide rescues.
“We were overwhelmed and humbled by the number of wonderful organizations that applied for this year’s Grady Britton $25,000 Grant. After careful consideration, we chose Oregon Partnership because of the outstanding work they do in the areas of education and prevention for youth and the community. We also saw the immediate need to support our military and their families, many of whom put their lives on hold and now need our help,” said Grady Britton President Frank Grady. “We’re proud to have the opportunity to work with this remarkable organization, and look forward to supporting them and other Portland non-profits making a positive impact on the lives of others.”
Any Portland-area 501(c)(3) organization was eligible to apply for the $25,000 professional services grant through Grady Britton’s Web site, which the agency plans to award yearly. Grady Britton looks for a recipient that is working to make a difference in our community.
This is the third year that the grant has been available, and the agency saw a 100 percent increase in applicants, a list that included a variety of organizations ranging from children’s charities to recreational facilities to social services. The 2009 GB Grant recipient was The Dougy Center, for whom the agency created a refreshed identity, including redesigning a brochure and website, as well as developing web banners and a radio spot. All work focused on helping The Dougy Center spread its message of hope for children and families grieving the death of a loved one, and to grow its network of supporters. Dayn Wilberding, Jul 29th, 2010 Construction and software: welcome Howard S. Wright and KAVI Corp.
The last few months have been busy here at the ol’ GB Ranch, thanks to the addition of two new awesome client partners, who are tapping our expertise to create exceptional experiences for their B2B audiences.
Howard S. Wright, a leading construction and construction management company on the West Coast, hired Grady Britton to develop a strategy to commemorate its 125th Anniversary. We’re also executing a number of PR projects to highlight the company’s solid capabilities, well-respected leadership team, and numerous construction wins. All part of helping this brand’s rich heritage come alive. Literally. Stay tuned. Work to come.
Next up: KAVI Corporation, whose structured collaboration solutions are used by thousands of organizations and associations nationally. Grady Britton developed brand positioning and a new website to engage customers as it expands into the enterprise market. The site launched in June.
We’re thrilled to have you part of our family!
Dayn Wilberding, Jul 27th, 2010 GB Grant Update: So many applications, so hard to choose.
Yet another reason to love Portland: the tremendous number of non-profits doing remarkable work in and for our community. This year’s response to the annual $25,000 Grady Britton Grant for marketing services surprised and humbled us. In fact, we’ve had so many applications, we’re taking just a few more days to evaluate them all, and will announce the grant winner Friday, July 30.
We thank you for your patience and understanding, and for all the work that went into filling out each application. And a special reminder to those not chosen–2011 is just around the corner.
Dayn Wilberding, Jul 26th, 2010 Pro-moting the non-profits: the GB Grant is back
We know these are tough times for Portland-area non-profits, who are no strangers to working with little or no budgets but need help to raise awareness for their work. We at GB are anxious to help.
For the third year in a row, we’re awarding one $25,000 GB Grant of in-kind marketing services – marketing strategy development, planning, creative development, digital communications, social media marketing or public relations – to a Portland-Metro area charitable organization making a difference in the local community. To be eligible, the non-profit organization must be able to contribute an equal amount of budget, either through its existing marketing budget or in human time and assets, to cover costs associated with the production and execution of the materials such as media costs, printing, or digital programming. Past recipients include The Dougy Center and SMART (Start Making A Reader Today).
Why are we doing this? Because Grady Britton has a proud history of volunteerism – investing our time and talents in extraordinary organizations making a positive difference in the lives of people around us. It’s one of the reasons we are consistently named one of Oregon’s best small companies to work for. And, it’s the reason we appreciate organizations like yours who put your time, money, and efforts where the need is great.
So. Fill out the RFP application and tell us what you need. And why. The RFP is due to Grady Britton no later than 5:00 p.m. July 19, 2010. The winner will be announced on July 26.
Dayn Wilberding, Jul 8th, 2010 Grady Britton Awards $25,000 Grant to The Dougy Center
Award Marks Second Annual Grant of Marketing Services to Local Non-Profit Agencies
Portland, Ore. (February 2, 2010) – Grady Britton (GB) is proud to award its second annual $25,000 grant for professional services to The Dougy Center, which provides peer support groups in a safe environment where children and their families grieving a death can share their experiences and heal. The Center was chosen from among several local non-profit organizations who applied for the grant through Grady Britton’s RFP process.
Last summer, a fire took a devastating toll on The Dougy Center’s main building, causing an estimated $1.3 million in damage and rendering it unusable. Understanding the Center’s immediate need to continue building a network of supporters while planning rebuilding efforts, GB is designing a new brand identity and logo, updating collateral materials and creating a campaign that will help draw attention to the Center’s efforts and drive traffic to its website during this crucial time.
“Grady Britton’s award couldn’t have come at a better time as we prepare to begin fundraising to rebuild the Center,” said Donna Schuurman, Executive Director of The Dougy Center. “The award will enable us to reach more grieving families with our message of hope and support, as well as help us to educate more people about the meaningful work that we do, so they’ll be motivated to partner with us.”
The Dougy Center support group facilitators have helped more than 20,000 grieving children since 1982. In spite of the loss of their main facility, the Center continues to operate its programs at a temporary location on N. E. Glisan in Portland.
“So many wonderful organizations applied for this year’s grant that it was a very difficult decision, but we chose The Dougy Center because we saw that there was an immediate need for our creative services and believe we can make an impact on their rebuilding efforts,” said Grady Britton President Frank Grady. “We’re proud to have the opportunity to work with this amazing local organization, and look forward to supporting them and other companies making a positive impact on the community.”
Any Portland-area 501(c)(3) organization was eligible to apply for the $25,000 professional services grant through Grady Britton’s Web site, which the agency plans to award yearly. Grady Britton looks for a recipient that is working to make a difference in our community. This is the second year that the grant has been available, and the agency saw an increase in applicants, a list that included a variety of organizations ranging from children’s charities to healthcare institutes. Last year’s recipient was the S.M.A.R.T. Program, which received a refreshed brand and corresponding microsite. Andy Askren, Feb 3rd, 2010 EartH2O Names Grady Britton Agency of Record
Partnership includes branding, advertising, and web design
Portland, Ore., (November 12, 2009) – EARTH2O, the Culver, Oregon-based company responsible for providing one of the purest bottled drinking waters available, named Grady Britton (GB) its marketing agency of record. The partnership will elevate EARTH2O’s brand and help it resonate with people throughout the Northwest.
GB conducted focus groups and drew heavily on the superiority of EARTH2O’s water to help shape an updated brand, which will officially launch by the end of the year. The brand work includes a new tag line – “Keep It Real” – and design, which will be used for packaging and a new website, and on posters, truck wraps, and for TV and online advertising.
“The brand refresh and concentrated marketing efforts will allow us to rise above all the noise in the bottled water industry,” said EARTH2O president Steve Emery. “Our water is sourced right here in Oregon, and absolutely nothing is stripped from the water or added during our bottling process. It’s important that our customers understand our name is synonymous with purity and quality when making their buying decisions.”
Before being named agency of record, GB worked with EARTH2O to design a new packaging wrap for the 6- and 24-bottle packs. The project required both aesthetic and functional creativity, considering EARTH2O is the first bottled water company to eliminate cardboard from its packaging, eliminating 257,508 pounds of cardboard waste yearly.
“We knew from our earliest project with EARTH2O that they had a great story to tell, and that we could help them tell it,” said Paige McCarthy, head of accounts at Grady Britton. “We jump at any opportunity to work with companies that embrace Northwest values and provide their customers with the best products possible.”
EARTH2O provides a full line of bottled water products, from single-serving bottles to 5-gallon home and office delivery. The company’s products are available throughout Oregon and Washington at major retailers.
About EARTH2O
Since 1995, EARTH2O has provided people in the Pacific Northwest with water that is pure, fresh, and bottled right in our backyard at Opal Springs near Culver, Ore. EARTH2O is available in 8, 16.9 and 20 ounce bottles; 1, 1.5 and 2 liter bottles; 1 and 2.5 gallon as well as distilled gallon, and 5-gallon home and office delivery. Andy Askren, Nov 12th, 2009 Burgerville Partners with GB to Manage Media-Buying Program, Energize Web Presence
Portland, Ore., (August 31, 2009) – Local quick-service restaurant company Burgerville has tapped Portland marketing agency Grady Britton to refresh its media-buying program, and to explore new opportunities for connecting with the restaurant’s guests online. The new marketing strategy allows Burgerville to better align the company’s advertising with its customers’ media patterns, and is complemented by a rich microsite featuring coupons for new seasonal gourmet menu choices. The microsite and reinvigorated media-buying campaign launched in February, and includes online, TV and radio advertising placement.
The media-buying program builds on the strategy and creative work produced by Burgerville’s strategic agency of record, N20. While there, they can also connect to Burgerville’s Facebook and Twitter communities, sharing their passion for the fresh local items they love with like-minded Burgerville fans.
“Grady Britton is an expert on the Portland and Southwest Washington advertising and interactive media market, and is helping us reach our customers on a broader scale,” said Cathy Miller, Director of Marketing for Burgerville.
Grady Britton designed BestofBurgerville.com to update each month as the new seasonal gourmet offerings change. TV, radio and online ads also update to highlight the latest seasonal items. The agency is also managing and hosting Burgerville.com, the company’s main website, and designing a new website for the Nomad, Burgerville’s mobile restaurant. Finally, Grady Britton is developing a new section of the website for Burgerville Sustainable, inviting people to engage in an online discussion around sustainability.

Andy Askren, Sep 2nd, 2009 Port of Vancouver USA names Grady Britton as Agency of Record
Portland, Ore., (March 3, 2009) – The Port of Vancouver USA has named Portland-based Grady Britton as its agency of record. The agency will support the port with branding, advertising, public relations and interactive services over the next three years.
Grady Britton will work with the Port of Vancouver to execute internal and external communications to promote upcoming projects that positively impact the city and the environment, and to position the port in a way that differentiates it from other Northwest ports.
The agency will also work to raise awareness about the port’s strong environmental stewardship, role in local job creation, and pioneering efforts in supporting and building the Northwest transportation infrastructure.
“We’re looking forward to working with the ‘Port of Possibility,’” said Grady Britton President Frank Grady. “The Port of Vancouver is a valuable commercial hub for its surrounding community and the region, and we’re excited to find new and innovative ways to support its brand in the coming years.”
The port’s Executive Director, Larry Paulson, was impressed by Grady Britton’s approach.
“Grady Britton has roots established not only in public-sector work, but also in Vancouver with private-sector clients like Burgerville and First Independent Bank,” Paulson said. “That, combined with their eye for a return on the port’s investment, were big reasons why the team charged with reviewing proposals from marketing agencies found Grady Britton to be the top choice.”
The Port of Vancouver is embarking on projects that will significantly increase their local, national, and international presence. These projects include adding new terminals, increasing rail volumes by more than 25 percent, providing new light industrial space for local businesses, and enhancing and preserving local wildlife habitats.
Grady Britton will also help the port plan for its centennial celebration, slated for 2012.
About Port of Vancouver USA
The Port of Vancouver USA, created by Clark County taxpayers in 1912, is one of the major ports on the Pacific Coast. Its competitive strengths include available land, versatile cargo handling capabilities, vast transportation networks, a dependable labor force and an exceptional level of service to its customers and community.
The Port of Vancouver is embarking on a year full of projects and developments that will lead to vital job creation, economic stimulation and environmental preservation. By diversifying its cargo mix between bulk commodities, breakbulk and project cargos, the port is responsible for job generation and significant contributions to the tax base for not only its own community, but also the state of Washington. Current expansion of the port’s rail system and development of new port industrial and marine properties will bring new jobs – both short term and long term – and the preservation of wetlands, the creation of enhanced wildlife habitat, and make way for more green/sustainable business partners operating from the port. Andy Askren, Mar 3rd, 2009 Grady Britton Wins Rosey Award for “Big Bad Wolf” Print Campaign
The Portland agency also received an award of Merit for the corresponding website mmmbacon.com
Portland, Ore (November 21, 2008) – Portland advertising and marketing agency Grady Britton took home one of only 12 coveted Rosey awards at the Portland Advertising Federation’s 51st Annual Rosey Awards Thursday. The agency’s “Big Bad Wolf” print advertising campaign for ICS Concrete Cutting Chainsaws won in the Business-to-Business Series (3+) – Magazine, Newspaper or Trade category. Grady Britton competed against more than 500 other entries for this top honor.
The agency also won a Merit award in the advertising/website category for the “Big Bad Wolf’ microsite, mmm-bacon.com. The campaign tells the story of how the Big Bad Wolf finally triumphed over those delicious little pigs (who thought they were safe in their solid brick house), thanks to an easy-to-use and unstoppable ICS concrete-cutting chainsaw.
“It’s an incredible honor to have won a Rosey,” said Andy Askren, Grady Britton’s creative director and one of the agency’s partners. “We have a talented team, and with a product this unique, a strategy this bold, the possibilities for turning a seemingly un-sexy chainsaw into something people would really talk about was just irresistible.”
Grady Britton ran the print ads – part of a rebranding and viral marketing campaign for Portland-based ICS – in contractor and construction industry publications to drive traffic to mmm-bacon.com. The ads feature either the “before” concept, with the Big Bad Wolf coming through a doorway he cut with his ICS chainsaw; or the “after” concept, with the three pigs roasting on an open fire, the wolf relaxing with his ICS saw at his side. The ads contain no text except for the newly designed ICS logo and tagline “Concrete. Stone. Masonry. Unstoppable.” The mmm-bacon.com URL appears at the bottom, with the site containing corresponding viral videos.
