Grady Britton Awards $25,000 Grant to The Dougy Center

Award Marks Second Annual Grant of Marketing Services to Local Non-Profit Agencies

Portland, Ore. (February 2, 2010) – Grady Britton (GB) is proud to award its second annual $25,000 grant for professional services to The Dougy Center, which provides peer support groups in a safe environment where children and their families grieving a death can share their experiences and heal. The Center was chosen from among several local non-profit organizations who applied for the grant through Grady Britton’s RFP process.

Last summer, a fire took a devastating toll on The Dougy Center’s main building, causing an estimated $1.3 million in damage and rendering it unusable. Understanding the Center’s immediate need to continue building a network of supporters while planning rebuilding efforts, GB is designing a new brand identity and logo, updating collateral materials and creating a campaign that will help draw attention to the Center’s efforts and drive traffic to its website during this crucial time.

“Grady Britton’s award couldn’t have come at a better time as we prepare to begin fundraising to rebuild the Center,” said Donna Schuurman, Executive Director of The Dougy Center. “The award will enable us to reach more grieving families with our message of hope and support, as well as help us to educate more people about the meaningful work that we do, so they’ll be motivated to partner with us.”

The Dougy Center support group facilitators have helped more than 20,000 grieving children since 1982. In spite of the loss of their main facility, the Center continues to operate its programs at a temporary location on N. E. Glisan in Portland.

“So many wonderful organizations applied for this year’s grant that it was a very difficult decision, but we chose The Dougy Center because we saw that there was an immediate need for our creative services and believe we can make an impact on their rebuilding efforts,” said Grady Britton President Frank Grady. “We’re proud to have the opportunity to work with this amazing local organization, and look forward to supporting them and other companies making a positive impact on the community.”

Any Portland-area 501(c)(3) organization was eligible to apply for the $25,000 professional services grant through Grady Britton’s Web site, which the agency plans to award yearly. Grady Britton looks for a recipient that is working to make a difference in our community. This is the second year that the grant has been available, and the agency saw an increase in applicants, a list that included a variety of organizations ranging from children’s charities to healthcare institutes. Last year’s recipient was the S.M.A.R.T. Program, which received a refreshed brand and corresponding microsite. EartH2O Names Grady Britton Agency of Record

Partnership includes branding, advertising, and web design

Portland, Ore., (November 12, 2009) – EARTH2O, the Culver, Oregon-based company responsible for providing one of the purest bottled drinking waters available, named Grady Britton (GB) its marketing agency of record. The partnership will elevate EARTH2O’s brand and help it resonate with people throughout the Northwest.

GB conducted focus groups and drew heavily on the superiority of EARTH2O’s water to help shape an updated brand, which will officially launch by the end of the year. The brand work includes a new tag line – “Keep It Real” – and design, which will be used for packaging and a new website, and on posters, truck wraps, and for TV and online advertising.

“The brand refresh and concentrated marketing efforts will allow us to rise above all the noise in the bottled water industry,” said EARTH2O president Steve Emery. “Our water is sourced right here in Oregon, and absolutely nothing is stripped from the water or added during our bottling process. It’s important that our customers understand our name is synonymous with purity and quality when making their buying decisions.”

Before being named agency of record, GB worked with EARTH2O to design a new packaging wrap for the 6- and 24-bottle packs. The project required both aesthetic and functional creativity, considering EARTH2O is the first bottled water company to eliminate cardboard from its packaging, eliminating 257,508 pounds of cardboard waste yearly.

“We knew from our earliest project with EARTH2O that they had a great story to tell, and that we could help them tell it,” said Paige McCarthy, head of accounts at Grady Britton. “We jump at any opportunity to work with companies that embrace Northwest values and provide their customers with the best products possible.”

EARTH2O provides a full line of bottled water products, from single-serving bottles to 5-gallon home and office delivery. The company’s products are available throughout Oregon and Washington at major retailers.

About EARTH2O
Since 1995, EARTH2O has provided people in the Pacific Northwest with water that is pure, fresh, and bottled right in our backyard at Opal Springs near Culver, Ore. EARTH2O is available in 8, 16.9 and 20 ounce bottles; 1, 1.5 and 2 liter bottles; 1 and 2.5 gallon as well as distilled gallon, and 5-gallon home and office delivery. Burgerville Partners with GB to Manage Media-Buying Program, Energize Web Presence

Portland, Ore., (August 31, 2009) – Local quick-service restaurant company Burgerville has tapped Portland marketing agency Grady Britton to refresh its media-buying program, and to explore new opportunities for connecting with the restaurant’s guests online. The new marketing strategy allows Burgerville to better align the company’s advertising with its customers’ media patterns, and is complemented by a rich microsite featuring coupons for new seasonal gourmet menu choices. The microsite and reinvigorated media-buying campaign launched in February, and includes online, TV and radio advertising placement.

The media-buying program builds on the strategy and creative work produced by Burgerville’s strategic agency of record, N20. Radio and online advertising highlights the microsite – BestofBurgerville.com — where customers can download a coupon for the new seasonal menu features. While there, they can also connect to Burgerville’s Facebook and Twitter communities, sharing their passion for the fresh local items they love with like-minded Burgerville fans.

“Grady Britton is an expert on the Portland and Southwest Washington advertising and interactive media market, and is helping us reach our customers on a broader scale,” said Cathy Miller, Director of Marketing for Burgerville.

Grady Britton designed BestofBurgerville.com to update each month as the new seasonal gourmet offerings change. TV, radio and online ads also update to highlight the latest seasonal items. The agency is also managing and hosting Burgerville.com, the company’s main website, and designing a new website for the Nomad, Burgerville’s mobile restaurant. Finally, Grady Britton is developing a new section of the website for Burgerville Sustainable, inviting people to engage in an online discussion around sustainability.

About Burgerville
Burgerville is a quick service restaurant company with 39 locations throughout Oregon and Southwest Washington, serving guests fresh, great tasting food from a mission to “serve with love.” Burgerville’s values extend beyond locally grown berries, all-natural beef, Walla Walla onions and cage-free eggs. Port of Vancouver USA names Grady Britton as Agency of Record

Portland, Ore., (March 3, 2009) – The Port of Vancouver USA has named Portland-based Grady Britton as its agency of record. The agency will support the port with branding, advertising, public relations and interactive services over the next three years.

Grady Britton will work with the Port of Vancouver to execute internal and external communications to promote upcoming projects that positively impact the city and the environment, and to position the port in a way that differentiates it from other Northwest ports.

The agency will also work to raise awareness about the port’s strong environmental stewardship, role in local job creation, and pioneering efforts in supporting and building the Northwest transportation infrastructure.

“We’re looking forward to working with the ‘Port of Possibility,’” said Grady Britton President Frank Grady. “The Port of Vancouver is a valuable commercial hub for its surrounding community and the region, and we’re excited to find new and innovative ways to support its brand in the coming years.”

The port’s Executive Director, Larry Paulson, was impressed by Grady Britton’s approach.

“Grady Britton has roots established not only in public-sector work, but also in Vancouver with private-sector clients like Burgerville and First Independent Bank,” Paulson said. “That, combined with their eye for a return on the port’s investment, were big reasons why the team charged with reviewing proposals from marketing agencies found Grady Britton to be the top choice.”

The Port of Vancouver is embarking on projects that will significantly increase their local, national, and international presence. These projects include adding new terminals, increasing rail volumes by more than 25 percent, providing new light industrial space for local businesses, and enhancing and preserving local wildlife habitats.

Grady Britton will also help the port plan for its centennial celebration, slated for 2012.

About Port of Vancouver USA

The Port of Vancouver USA, created by Clark County taxpayers in 1912, is one of the major ports on the Pacific Coast. Its competitive strengths include available land, versatile cargo handling capabilities, vast transportation networks, a dependable labor force and an exceptional level of service to its customers and community.

The Port of Vancouver is embarking on a year full of projects and developments that will lead to vital job creation, economic stimulation and environmental preservation. By diversifying its cargo mix between bulk commodities, breakbulk and project cargos, the port is responsible for job generation and significant contributions to the tax base for not only its own community, but also the state of Washington. Current expansion of the port’s rail system and development of new port industrial and marine properties will bring new jobs – both short term and long term – and the preservation of wetlands, the creation of enhanced wildlife habitat, and make way for more green/sustainable business partners operating from the port. Grady Britton Wins Rosey Award for “Big Bad Wolf” Print Campaign

The Portland agency also received an award of Merit for the corresponding website mmmbacon.com

Portland, Ore (November 21, 2008) – Portland advertising and marketing agency Grady Britton took home one of only 12 coveted Rosey awards at the Portland Advertising Federation’s 51st Annual Rosey Awards Thursday. The agency’s “Big Bad Wolf” print advertising campaign for ICS Concrete Cutting Chainsaws won in the Business-to-Business Series (3+) - Magazine, Newspaper or Trade category. Grady Britton competed against more than 500 other entries for this top honor.

The agency also won a Merit award in the advertising/website category for the “Big Bad Wolf’ microsite, mmm-bacon.com. The campaign tells the story of how the Big Bad Wolf finally triumphed over those delicious little pigs (who thought they were safe in their solid brick house), thanks to an easy-to-use and unstoppable ICS concrete-cutting chainsaw.

“It’s an incredible honor to have won a Rosey,” said Andy Askren, Grady Britton’s creative director and one of the agency’s partners. “We have a talented team, and with a product this unique, a strategy this bold, the possibilities for turning a seemingly un-sexy chainsaw into something people would really talk about was just irresistible.”

Grady Britton ran the print ads – part of a rebranding and viral marketing campaign for Portland-based ICS – in contractor and construction industry publications to drive traffic to mmm-bacon.com. The ads feature either the “before” concept, with the Big Bad Wolf coming through a doorway he cut with his ICS chainsaw; or the “after” concept, with the three pigs roasting on an open fire, the wolf relaxing with his ICS saw at his side. The ads contain no text except for the newly designed ICS logo and tagline “Concrete. Stone. Masonry. Unstoppable.”  The mmm-bacon.com URL appears at the bottom, with the site containing corresponding viral videos.

Grady Britton Is Now Anchor Tenant Of Olympic Mills Commerce Center

PORTLAND, Ore. (Oct. 16, 2008) –Portland advertising agency Grady Britton has moved to the Olympic Mills Commerce Center, allowing enough space for the 35-year-old company’s future growth. After 18 years on SW Washington Street, Grady Britton relocated to the third floor of the Olympic Mills Commerce Center on SE Washington Street. With sustainability and creativity at the core of the Central Eastside’s redevelopment, Grady Britton anticipates a surge of commercial growth that will reflect the bustling urban activity across the Willamette River.

“The decision to move across the river is part of Grady Britton’s evolving culture,” said Grady Britton President, Frank Grady. “The agency’s relocation allows us to expand our team, and therefore grow in the ways we serve our clients.”

Grady Britton’s move parallels the sustainability-based missions and brands of its clients, including Hoyt Street Properties and Oregon Institute of Technology. The agency chose Horizon low-VOC paint for its walls, a brand of eco-friendly paint developed by new client Rodda Paint Company.

“A few of our clients are leaders in sustainability practices across a number of industries,” said Paige McCarthy, Grady Britton’s client services director. “We want to reflect their commitment to environmental preservation, and the Olympic Mills building is a prime location to do so.”

The Olympic Mills Commerce Center is the refurbished B&O warehouse, designed by Beam Development to offer creative companies a sustainable office space in the burgeoning Central Eastside district of Portland. The building was redesigned using the structure’s recycled wood, which was applied to interior wall treatments. Indoor courtyards were created to allow natural light to flow into the building, and recycled metal was also used to build bridges and a bracing system in one of the stairwells.

In addition to the agency’s sustainability efforts, Grady Britton’s new space includes expanded square footage and the latest designs in technology infrastructure to better serve clients. The office also boasts a Nintendo® Wii™ wall, and employees commute down corridors via Razor scooters. It’s innovative employee perks like these that helped Grady Britton earn the title of fifth best company to work for in Oregon for 2008, a designation Oregon Business magazine awarded the agency in March 2008.

“The combination of unconventional benefits, communal space and the creative presence of neighboring businesses within the building encourages a constant convergence of opinions and perspectives,” said Andy Askren, the agency’s creative director.

The Portland Development Commission (PDC) was involved in securing Grady Britton as the anchor tenant for the Olympic Mills building. The agency’s move from the heart of downtown coincides with the Central Eastside’s booming development projects, paving the way for more creative companies to establish themselves within the area.

Mike Holzgang of Colliers International represented Grady Britton as the agency’s real estate broker. Works Partnership Architecture, LLC designed the build-out of Grady Britton’s space.

Jet Reports taps Grady Britton for market research

Business software developer looks to enhance branding.

Portland, OR –
Jet Reports has enlisted Portland-based advertising and public relations agency Grady Britton to conduct in-depth market research that will help refine Jet Reports’ branding and messaging.

Jet Reports, headquartered in Portland, provides business software that allows a company to access key information about its own operations, taking raw data and presenting it in custom reports that are relevant and easy to interpret. Reports can target data on finances, inventory, sales, customers, budgets and other areas, providing visibility and allowing managers to make more informed business decisions.

Grady Britton is asking new Jet Reports customers and non-Jet Reports customers questions that will help identify how companies use reporting tools, how they choose financial reporting software and how they learn about new software programs.  Jet Reports will then use this information to determine marketing and messaging strategy.

“Our experience with creating branding and targeted messaging for companies blends well with Jet Reports’ goals for this research,” said Frank Grady, president/CEO of Grady Britton.

PORTLAND, Ore. (July 15, 2008) – Local advertising and public relations agency Grady Britton named two new partners: Client Services Director Paige McCarthy and Creative Director Andy Askren.

“This promotion reflects Paige and Andy’s passion for the business and desire to continue the legacy of this agency,” said Grady Britton President, Frank Grady. “The addition of these excellent partners signifies the next chapter of the company.”

McCarthy started at Grady Britton eight years ago as an account manager and has worked with Xerox Network Printers, Boise Cascade Corporation and First Independent Bank. “Frank, Andy and I work incredibly well together,” said McCarthy. “Our partnership with Frank means we can work together to continue to meet and exceed the high standards of client service Grady Britton has maintained for more than 34 years.”

SMART Reading Program Receives $25,000 Grant from Grady Britton

Portland, OR (July 9, 2008) – Grady Britton has awarded its first ever $25,000 grant for professional services to the SMART reading program (Start Making A Reader Today). SMART was one of 15 Portland-area non-profit and charity organizations to apply for this grant through the agency’s Request For Proposals (RFP) process.

Grady Britton, a Portland-based advertising and marketing agency, will help SMART re-engage its current constituents and attract new ones by creating a marketing campaign that communicates SMART’s updated brand identity. The non-profit’s new identity is designed to highlight the importance of childhood literacy and to encourage Portlanders to become volunteers.

“We truly believe if people are more aware of the direct and indirect affects of literacy – both statewide and locally – they would do more to help, whether as a volunteer, donor or advocate,” said SMART Marketing/PR Manager Melissa Logan. “Grady Britton can help us reach a large audience of current and potential SMART supporters, who will ultimately help us create an Oregon where every child can read.”

Thirty-eight percent of Oregon fourth graders – about 14,000 kids – cannot read at the basic level. “Basic” means a child is unable to understand what they read, or connect to it on some level. SMART works to remedy this through a community of volunteers who read one-on-one with children in Kindergarten through 3rd grade, as well as providing 14 new books to each participating child every year. Over the past 16 years, SMART has helped more than 100,000 Oregon kids become confident readers and productive citizens.

Grady Britton will begin working with SMART in July. The agency will work with the non-profit to create a highly visible campaign, which may include TV, radio, and print advertising, online and interactive, direct mail and more.

“We chose to work with SMART because we know how important it is to not only develop a new, cohesive brand, but to also make sure it reaches the right audience” said Grady Britton President Frank Grady. “In the past, we have partnered with many wonderful Portland organizations to offer our services pro bono. The RFP process was our opportunity to work with an organization we might not have connected with otherwise, and to find one with needs that match our expertise.”

Any Portland-area 501(c)(3) organization was eligible to apply for the grant through Grady Britton’s Web site. Applicants included a variety of Portland-area organizations ranging from children’s charities to healthcare institutions to groups that work to help the homeless.

The agency plans to award a $25,000 grant twice a year from this point forward.
